What the site itself stores
Nothing. The pages are files, served as they were built. The one thing kept on your machine is the light-or-dark setting you choose in the header, which is written to your browser's local storage and never leaves it. Clearing your site data removes it.
Audience measurement
None. No analytics script is loaded on these pages, so no request leaves your browser to a third party while you read.
The newsletter
Subscribing hands your address to buttondown, who store it and send the letters on our behalf. We use it for the letter and nothing else, we do not sell it or pass it on, and every letter carries an unsubscribe link that removes the address for good.
Pictures and embeds
Every photograph on these pages is served from this site. Nothing is hotlinked, and no social embed, map or video player loads a third party's script behind the article you are reading.

Write to the editor, Linnea Holm, at the address on the colophon. Ask what we hold about you and we will tell you; ask us to correct it or delete it and we will, and say so when it is done.
